Purchase Birder's Diary Software and Taxonomic Lists

If You are New to Birder's Diary

Before purchasing at the Online Store, you need to understand licensing for Birder's Diary. Please visit the Product Info > Licensing Explained page from the menu system above to learn more.

How-To-Purchase Video!

If you are new to Birder's Diary, to use it beyond the 30 day demo period you must purchase:

  1. Either a Basic or Advanced Program/User License, and
  2. at least one taxonomic list that you will want to use. (e.g. ABA Birds of NA, Mammals of NA, Clements Birds of the World, etc.)

At the Online Store, you will see a list of options. These options fall into one of two categories:

  1. Program/User License
    This will be either a Basic, Advanced or "Upgrade to Advanced from Basic" license for the latest version available.
  2. Taxonomic List License
    There are many available that cover many areas of flora and fauna. Some taxonomic list licenses are upgrades from the previous version. These upgrades are offered at a reduced price for those that already hold a license for the previous year's version only. This helps you to keep up-to-date at a reduced cost.

Once you have decided, you can then go to the Online Store page on this site and purchase what you want by adding items to your cart. As you add items to your cart, you will have to verify a preexisting purchase account (which is separate from the Log On for this web site - see FAQ at left) or create a new account if you have never purchased here since before version 3.5. When you are done adding items to your cart, click on the Checkout button. After checkout, you will receive an eMailed Invoice with a License ID for each product option you purchase (please save this invoice for your records). If you have questions about whether you have an existing purchase account and/or what that account is, please send email to and you will receive prompt help.

If you have purchased a user license, log on to this web site and proceed to the Downloads page. There you will find an Installation Button for the version of Birder's Diary that you purchased a license for. Start your installation by clicking on that link and follow the instructions.

If you have purchased a taxonomic list license, log on to this web site and proceed to the Downloads page. There you will find a section listing all taxonomic lists for sale. Locate yours and start your installation by clicking on the Install button.

Professional Installation/Upgrade Service

Many folks find computer tasks beyond logging in, running programs, surfing the web and reading and responding to e-Mails beyond their comfort zones. After all, you just want to use the darn thing, not spend time figuring out how to configure a peer-2-peer wireless network on your time off from your paying job!

After that, you will be contacted by technical support via e-Mail, M-F 8-5 (Mountain Time GMT -07), to arrange a time to complete the installation or upgrade of Birder's Diary. When a time has been arranged, all you need to do is to go to the Desktop Sharing page, read the instructions and click on the Start Session button.

All that is required is that you have a reliable internet connection. This usually means everything but the worst dial-up connections. Reliable dial-up connections usually work just fine.
