Jeff-

When I click on the View/Edit button I recieve the following error message

     Run-time error '6':    Over flow.

I click OK and the following error box shows up.

C:\birdersdiary\BDv31\data\master35database.mdb is not valid path.  Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides.

I have not done anything different to the computer when it was working fine and all the other tabs are working such as the "add".

Any suggestions on how to  fix this problem?

Jen

Hi Jen,

Well - that is weird. But from somewhere deep in my frozen memory cells I do remember this happening once before to another customer. I just searched this forum and couldn't find it. You are running v3.6 - correct?

Really weird. I should get onto your system and have a look. Can we do this in the next couple hours or else next week (M-F) sometime?

The problem ended up being that she had moved the View/Sightings Setup window way off to the left "1 e-20" or something like that.

Fixed the following entry in the registry - see screenshot below

Went to use the Tax view again, and barely touched mouse and it moved like it did before and I can't seem to scroll and find it. How did you get it back so I can chase it down again

Hi Jen,

Hmmm - what kind of mouse/track-ball do you have? It sounds very sensitive. Perhaps you should go through the Mouse setup under Windows (inside of Parallels on your MAC). To do this, open the Control Panel and choose "Mouse". In there you will find setting for toning down your mouse movement to a more manageable level.

The good news is that I just updated v3.7 for this type of problem.

Now - to get back your lost window; you should see a scroll bar at the bottom or right of your main BD window. Scroll it to the extreme limit and you will see your window - now move that window back to the upper left.

Let me know if this doesn't make sense for you.

I tried to do what you said but the "Scroll" just keeps jumping back to the beginning and the screen is not there.

As for the mouse, I am not sure what kind it is. The whole thing is a button. Acts like a track pad and a mouse at the same time. It came with my iMAC.

Hi Jen,

Well - that's no fun. How about reconnecting to me as per the instructions this morning and let me take a look.

Thanks,

Jeff

I am familiar with this problem. I think it's related to the Apple Magic Mouse.

I am getting the same error message that Jen got in her 2010 post.

I have Birder's Diary on my Mac in Parallels.  A few days ago I got a message saying Windows was installing updates.  When it was done, the Windows window wasn't showing anything in either the Windows or Mac toolbar.  I fussed with Parallels settings and shot myself in the foot.  I finally read the documentation and got things back to "normal."  Quicken works and Birder's Diary opens and works except for View Sightings.  It usually just closes the View Sightings Setup window and does nothing.  I uninstalled BDiary and reinstalled.  When I tried to restore the database from backup, it said it couldn't find the file.  I moved a backup to the \data folder and renamed it as instructed and it gave me the invalid path error message:  C:\Birder's Diary\BD V31\data\MASTER 35\database.mdb is not a valid path...."  Well of course it isn't!  Why is it looking for it?

Parallels at one point created an [F] drive which it then couldn't find/use, so I deleted it.  I think it was created by my fussing around.  I have a functional [C] Windows 10 drive.  Don't know if the [F] drive is relevant.

Suggestions?

Sarah

Problem resolved. The error was bogus; BDiary was seeing the database just fine. The View Sightings screen disappeared because I'd scrolled down in the BDiary screen and the View Sightings were accumulating off-screen. Embarrassing but it might save someone some grief.

I tried to find Hermit Thrush for Yard and got this message:

BDV51
C:\Birder's Diary\BDv31\data\database-no-password.mdb' Is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides.

When I went to close the program I got this message:

Fatal Error
frmSightingsEdit2. PopulateFields: Error in recordcount <0> for sightingsID+<0> Latest Error Properties:0=

I tried to recreate the messages to make sure that I had copied them correctly and did get the first message again but not the fatal error message at closing.

I just bought kaspersky for my computer, but disabled it when I downloaded build 67. Then turned it back on when the download was finished.

Happy Thanksgiving

Thanks for your help!

Hi Ruth,

Thanks for posting. Can I assume you are running v5.1.x? If you are not at Build 67 (v5.1.67) please upgrade to this version from Help | Internet: Check for a program update and retest the error.

If the error continues, can you please walk me through the steps to reproduce the error. I assume, starting with the View Sightings Setup window.

Let's start here please,

Jeff

Yes, I am up to date with build 67. I wanted to look up Hermit Thrush for my yard, so went to view/edit entered dates 01011956 to current date, location yard, and Hermit Thrush for species. Chose Clements-Cornell 2019 for Taxonomy and hit continue. That's when the error message popped up.

Ruth

OK, just went through all the steps again and it worked just fine! Perhaps, shutting down the computer and letting it sit for a few days fixed it? It is gradually working its way into my brain that rebooting takes care of most problems. Thanks for your help, I'll let you know if it happens again.

Hi Ruth,

Thanks for the update. When this occurs and rebooting fixes it, it may be an indication of an unstable system. FYI

Let me know if it occurs again please or if there is anything else that I can assist with.
