    Hello Birder's Diary Users!

I am working on the updated Clements/IOC/ABA/AOU taxonomic lists currently. Expect them to pass testing and be available in two weeks.

In the meantime, I purchased some screen-capture video software and started a new Birder's Diary Video Channel on YouTube!

I added the first video - How to Create a Checklist Report Grouped by Family.

To get to this new Birder's Diary YouTube channel at any time, simply click on the YouTube icon at the top-right of any page on this site.

Check out that video. I bet you will learn some things about designing reports in Birder's Diary that you didn't know about.

I want to ask you, the Birder's Diary users, what other How-To videos you might want to see me make and put up there.

It can be anything from, how to purchase, how to update your taxonomic list, or how to do any function within Birder's Diary itself, among others.

So please reply and post your wishes for features and things related to Birder's Diary that you would like more in-depth knowledge on.

I will do my best to get them up and online as time goes on.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

Love the video idea Jeff. Saw your last one. How about lumping two species and splitting a specie into two. That always gets me going but I work it out in the end.

    Hi Jude,

Excellent idea! So, you now have 3 new videos up and ready.

    1. Splitting a species in a tax list that contains no subspecies

    2. Splitting a species in a tax list that contains subspecies

    3. Lumping species

Disclaimer: What I am finding is that it takes a lot of time to try to get rid of the "Ummms" and "Uhhhhs", and will impact my ability to generate more of these videos over time. So please excuse the poor narration in all the videos and I hope that the point of the videos is not lost in my unrehearsed speaking. I am pretty sure I even said "Yellow-wumped Rarbler" at least once in one of those videos!

However, with that Disclaimer now stated, please do give me feedback on what can be improved, changed, etc. Thanks!

    Many more to come.

    Jeff

Thanks again Jeff. Excellent videos. I can see where I was going wrong now. Plus I had no idea what the Alias was for .. that's a great asset. Jude

Glad you found it helpful Jude. All of my unprofessional editing and narration aside, that is the overall goal - to make it helpful and useful.

I know your a busy man Jeff, so when you get a moment (haha), how about a video on "How to Copy things from one Taxonomy List into a 'user created' Taxonomy List. Reason being I was thinking of making my IOC Taxonomy into an Australian Only IOC List.

    Hi Jeff,
Thank you for responding so quickly and so effectively following my What Species Have I seen/Not Seen By Family enquiry. I was almost there with it but missed a step. The video is brilliant thank you. As new user to BD, the functionality is so rich it's hard sometimes to find the key to unlock it but it's a great piece of work as is the support that sits alongside.

Thanks so much for the kind words Graeme!

I hope you don't mind, but I added that post to the Testimonials page!

Glad you liked the video. It is amazingly time-consuming to create each one (2 hrs for that one). But when I think that the question is likely to help many others, it is probably worth it to put the answer in that format. So much easier to watch it being done than to try to follow written instructions some times.

    Take care,

    Jeff
