The California Birds Record Committee added two species to the official CA Checklist. See details below.
The Purple Sandpiper (Calidris maritima) at Salt Creek (Salton Sea), Riverside Co. 25 March to 17 April 2016 [CBRC#2016-028] was accepted along with the one at Point Reyes, Marin Co. 25 Apr 2016 [CBRC#2016-029]; it was the unanimous vote of the Committee that these two records involved the same individual. Purple Sandpiper is added to the state list between Rock Sandpiper and Baird’s Sandpiper with a “PV” code; it is also added to the review list.
The Buff-breasted Flycatcher (Empidonax fulvifrons) at Galileo Hill, Kern Co. 15 May 2016 [CBRC#2016-034] was also accepted. Buff-breasted Flycatcher is added to the state list between Cordilleran Flycatcher and Black Phoebe with a “P” code; it is also added to the review list.
The acceptance of these two species brings the state list from 664 to 666 species.
I managed to see and photograph the Purple Sandpiper after the initial excitement died down.
Please add California to the list of locations for the these species in BD.

Colorado just had its first Purple Sandpiper the month of December! Quite a sighting.
