Every time I upgrade versions, my defined region "Eurasia" gets redefined to be incorrect. Indonesia spans two regions: Asia & Australasia, and  the Australasian part keeps being added back into to my Eurasia region, where it does not belong.

I tried to make this correction this morning and it was a disaster. I temporarily changed the location of all my Australasia area Indonesia sightings (all of which are in Halmahera) to "Timor." I chose that because I have no real sightings there. I then deleted Halmahera from my definition of my defined Eurasia. That went okay. Then I tried to change "Timor" back to Halmahera. No go--it no longer existed. I certainly didn't mean to make a global removal. Anyway, I restored from my backup, so no real harm done, except my Eurasia still isn't right.
    What should I do?

    Hi John,

Thanks for posting. And good for you for creating a backup before attempting any big modification!

You say that this is your defined region - so I assume we are NOT talking about the ABA EURASIA REGION that comes already defined in BD - right?

If this is your location that you created, updating BD should have no effect on it at all. It may have an effect on ancestors or descendants that come pre-defined in BD, but not on a user-defined location. So, I am curious as to whether I understand the problem here.

First, make sure you are running build 62 of v4.1 (v4.1.62). If not, upgrade with Help | Internet: Check for an Upgrade.

Let's start here John. Let me know if we are talking about your Eurasia location or the "ABA EURASIA REGION" already defined in BD.

Note: Wile in the Locations window, you can right-click on any location (even WORLD) and choose "Export Selected Location's Descendants". This will export your location hierarchy to a text file for easy examination. If you export WORLD, you can attach that file in your reply so I can have a look at your hierarchy.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,

I haven't touched the ABA Eurasia definition. I am using version 4.1 62. I exported the locations, and have attached the file.
I certainly hope you can help.
    Thanks, John

    Hi John,

Thanks for including the export in your last post. I see no reason why the updates should modify your EURASIA definition in any way to include INDONESIA (AUSTRALASIA).

The best way for me to figure this out is to jump onto your computer and see this for myself. Either that or you can do a backup and ZIP/compress the backup and upload it to me on this site using the Support >> File Upload page.

Let me know which you prefer.

    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,

If jumping into my computer is best, let's do that. How do we start?  John

Just got off of John's computer.

The problem is that my master location hierarchy incorrectly includes INDONESIA (ASIA) as a parent of Maluku Islands.

I have corrected that in my master copy and this will no longer be a problem.

    Thanks John!

    Jeff
