I just bought version 5.0 Advanced User and the Clements/Cornell Taxonomy list.  The problem is that none of the data from my old version of Birder's Diary (version 3.6) seem to have migrated into the new version.  So, I have no defined observers, or saved reports or anything.  How do I do this?  I'm sure it must be simple, but somehow, I just can't figure it out.

Very frustrating as I have some 20 years of observations I want to import.  Starting over is not an option.

    Hi Jamie,

Thanks for posting and for upgrading.

Did you install v5 on the same computer that has v3.6? Then probably, v3.6 is installed under "C:\Program Files\Birder's Diary\" and v5 is installed under "C:\Birder's Diary\".

    Here's the solution:

    1. Exit Birder's Diary if running.
    2. Using Windows File Explorer (aka My Computer) copy C:\Program Files\Birder's Diary\data\database.mdb to C:\Birder's Diary\data\.
    3. It will ask whether you want to Replace/Overwrite... choose Yes to Replace/Overwrite the existing "database.mdb" file; created by the installation without any data.
    4. Start BD and you should see your data.

Let me know if I can assist further with anything.

    Jeff

Thank you for your prompt suggestions. They provided a partial fix. I now have my old observations, observers, and locations in the Version 5 dadabase. I can do things in Verrsion 5 (e.g., create a report, etc). Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to update to add the new Cornell World taxonomy use license I purchased at the same time. Again, I'm sure it is somehow simple, but I haven't been able to find anything by clicking through all of the menus. There doesn't seem to be an "Add new Toxonomy" option hiding somewhere.

    Suggestions?

    Hi Jamie,

You need to purchase a new license for the latest version of your taxonomy. There are videos for how to purchase, download and import on this site on all of the relevant pages.

Let me know if I can assist further with anything.
