I tried to load a taxonomy (Clements 2017) in the Tax Viewer. I got various messages like this: Got Duplicate Key in xxx. XXX is a duplicate! It says this is because things are out of order and I can drag them to where they are supposed to be.

I do not know how they could have gotten out of order. How do I know where they are supposed to be so I can drag them there? I got this on Struthioniformes, Accipitriformes, Charadriiformes, Passeriformes. The last one is attached.

    Hi David,

Had a bug in the Taxonomy Viewer that will be fixed in v5.1 (due out soon).

And thanks for the screenshot. If you notice, there is a Passeriformes higher up in the display near the top. Open that, and the first species under that tree should be moved down to the bottom. And similarly with others. Once you move one, close and reopen that Tax Viewer and make sure that message is gone for that branch.

    Let me know please.

    Jeff

Looking at you comments in "Incorrect Taxonomic Order in Reports", I noticed I have duplicate orders at the top of the tree, as you said. I tried your instructions on how to fix that. It seemed to work for Struth. But for Accipt, I just ended up with both of the entries next to each other. Same thing for Charad. I did not try it for Passer. because I doubt Passer. is supposed to be so far up the tree. I think it should be last. I am using 5.0.54. I will wait for your fix.

I tried to move the whole Passer. order, dragging it down. It took a long time to resort. Closed. Reopened. Passer. is still a duplicate at the top.

But now I notice you say to move the SPECIES. There is no way I can move all of the individual species in Passer. There's got to be thousands of them.

    Is there a better solution?

But the other out-of-order orders seem to be fixed.

Nope. Within Accip. the family Accipitridae is duplicated. Do I have to drag that species by species?

The other former problem orders do not have duplicates in them.

    Hi David,

Please trying dragging the first species under the top Passeriformes and dropping it on the bottom where it belongs.

    Let me know please.

The first "species" would be Empidonax (sp.), that I added. I won't let me drag that. So, I dropped the next one, flaviventris, on to flaviventris. It took it, and did no resorting. I ended up with two flaviventris, separated by virescens. I tried dropping the second onto the first. Closed, and it wanted to rebuild the sort order. After all that, when I opened the viewer again, Passer. is still a duplicate.  The species dupe is gone.

I do have a spuh, Passerid (sp.), as the first thing in the order. And Empidonax (sp.) as the first thing in the first genus of the first family of Passer.

    Hi David,

It is the Spuhs (sp.) that are causing the problem. That is what the bug is in v5.0.

You should be able to drag the Empidonax (sp.) node and drop it on the Empidonax Genus node at the bottom.

However, I think I should have a look at your database please.

Can you please do a backup, then ZIP/compress your backup and upload it to me using the Support >> File Upload page on this site.

I will be able to correct your database and get it back to you in a day.

Thanks and sorry for this problem,

    Jeff

I uploaded it. But when it took me back to the main upload page that shows a list at the bottom. There was no file in the list. So, I don't know if it took.

    Hi David,

Thanks for your help and sorry about this problem.

You can retrieve your repaired database from here

Unzip the zip file and move the .MDB file inside to C:\Birder's Diary\data\database.mdb, replacing the existing database file of the same name. Note: BD must not be running to do this.

    Let me know please,

    Jeff

I have replaced the database, and the Tax Viewer seems to be working fine. Much thanks, Jeff. Now, I don't remember why I went into the viewer in the first place!

I thought I responded to this a few days ago, but I don't see it here. I got the DB and Tax Viewer seems to be working fine. Thank you.
