I added two new things to my personal "Creature" taxonomy using the Taxonomy Viewer "Add Thing to Taxonomy List " feature. For a location, I used the state (i.e., Michigan) (see screenshot). Don't worry about the thing being in red letters. I know what that is about and it did not affect the outcome.Everything was accepted and I went merrily on my way.
When I tried to add a sighting for the just created thing using the keyboard method with location: North America, the SmartSearch did not find the thing and gave me something based on some key letters (see screenshot).
When I tried to disable SmartSearch (Control / Arrow down) and type in the thing, I get a message about not allowing new values (see screenshot).
I then tried the checklist method and that worked. I was able to find the new thing in the checklist and filled in the data.
I tried one more thing. I tried adding the sighting using the keyboard method but used the state (i.e., Michigan) as the location. The thing was found and SmartSearch did not act up.
So the question is why doesn't SmartSearch recognize that North America is the parent of Michigan?
Should I have used North America as the location when creating the thing and later edit locations in the checklist editor (i.e., deleting North America and adding Michigan)?
