This stems from a hard drive crash months ago.  Got a new hard drive installed.  Have not been able to operate BD since the crash.  Had v5.0 before the crash.  Reinstalled it (Geek Squad at Best Buy did all the recovery work) but 5.0 wouldn't recognize and load my database file using the "RESTORE only" procedures.  Got an error message: "no items match your search."  Bought v5.1 hoping it would solve the problem (would have upgraded anyway).  It didn't.  Haven't been able to start v5.1 from the desktop icon.  Only get error messages: "Unrecognized database format C:\Birders Diary\data\database.mdb" and when I click OK on that error message box I get the second message "Run-time error 91 Object variable or With block variable not set."  Have a hunch that tech support needs to get in to my computer to fix all of this.

    Hi Craig,

Thanks for posting. Sorry to hear about your computer woes.

Please send me email at jeff@birdersdiary.com and we will schedule some time for me to get onto your computer and fix this.

The key will be whether you have a valid copy/backup of your database. Geeks needed to grab a copy of C:\Birder's Diary\data\database.mdb, or you need to have a backup/copy on a separate device.

I will be looking for your email.

    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,
Went back to Best Buy and the Geeks transferred the BD v50 data files from the crashed drive to the new drive. Can now start BD v5.1. Got my life list downloaded and printed. However, tried to add new sightings from recent birding trips and immediately got an error message: "Run-time error 339: Component "jtc2statebutton.ocx" or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." Have a hunch that Kasperskey, my anti-virus software, is involved. What do I do to deal with the missing or invalid file issue? Thank you.

    Hi Craig,

Glad you got your file back and your data.

To fix this problem, 1) disable ALL antivirus software temporarily, and 2) run the Network Installation from the Downloads page on this site. A reboot may be required.

That should fix it. Let us know.

    Jeff
