Jeff, we've been trying for three days to download ebird checklists from various locations to the mobile app. We get the message "eBird Temporary Error." We directly entered the URL from that message (ebird.org/barchart?r=L472208&bmo=10&emo=10) and we get the same result: no species rows. But when we asked for a hotspot report from the eBird website, we get the barcharts.

Has eBird changed something?

I got a surprise. I discovered that I have Clements 2022 sightings that somehow have not been reconciled to a later taxonomy. I discovered this when I tried to delete a location, but it would not do it because it said I had sightings for it. It turned out there was a sighting that I could see only under Clements 2022. It didn't show up under Avilist. Once I viewed the sighting under Clements 2022, I could change its location and then I could delete the location. (It was a recent sighting too. How it got to be Clements 2022 in the first place, I don't know.)

Anyway, everything was supposed to be on Avilist 2025 now, I thought. But now I see there are many Clements 2022 sightings left over. (As you know, earlier I had reconciled Clements 2024 to Avilist 2025.)

So, I tried to reconcile the sightings to Avilist 2025. I wasn't having much luck. (I got stuck at Herring Gull. It wanted to change to European Herring Gull, but it should be American Herring Gull). So, I reconciled to Clements 2024 instead, thinking I could then convert to Avilist 2025. And it did it, in one fell swoop, even though that was not my intention.

But before I did that, I manually did the first thing on the list, reconciling from Clements 2022 to Avilist 2025. It was Muscovy Duck. And I might have done Ruddy Duck too. But now somehow I seem to have ended up reconciling Muscovy Duck to Ruddy Duck, according to the report. I don't want my Muscovy Duck sightings to say they are Ruddy Duck! But I still seem to have the Muscovy Duck sightings that I am supposed to have (3). I temporarily restored back to my pre-reconcile backup to confirm what the sightings should be.

So, what happened? Am I good? I am sending the report by email.

I just switched from Clements 2024 to Avilist 2025. And now I have confusion.

An example of a problem:
The reconciliation report says:
Thing that changed Clements 2024:
Andean Duck (ferruginea)
Oxyura ferruginea ferruginea

Under What changed?, it says:
Same Thing found in new taxonomy: 'Ruddy Duck ferruginea' - 'Oxyura jamaicensis ferruginea'.
Common Name changed to 'Ruddy Duck ferruginea'.
Scientific Name changed to 'Oxyura jamaicensis ferruginea'.
Not reconciled.

And so my sighting stayed Andean Duck (ferruginea). Why? Has the common name in the taxonomy changed or not? If it did, then why did Reconcile not change it?

Even worse, neither Andean Duck (ferruginea) nor Ruddy Duck shows in a life list report using Avilist. Andean Duck (ferruginea) does show in a report using Clements 2024.

The report also says I lost
Setophaga aestiva
Northern Yellow Warbler

And yet, it says
Internal Thing changed.
Not reconciled.

But sure enough, a life list using Avilist does not show it. But it said it didn't reconcile it, so why not?

How do I get it back?

In the Reconcile window, Northern Yellow Warbler did show on the top, and there are many sightings to reconcile, but there is nothing in Probable choices below to reconcile it to. Why not?

Further confusion on Hooded Crow/Carrion Crow, but we will let that go for now.

Also, when I hit Reconcile for a spuh, I do not get a list in Probable Choices at the bottom. Do I have to manually add the spuh to the taxonomy? I thought it would do that automatically.

Hi Jeff,

I have been adding my latest sightings from my latest trip over the past few days. I finished adding the sightings and wanted to make a sightings report. I did so successfully using the "Sightings" tab. Then I decided to click on the "Trip Report" tab and was met with this error -

1139

I was afraid that Birder's Diary would close itself and I had not backed up my latest sightings. I chose to Exit and Backup. It seemed to work fine. I was using Version 7 Build 0.

I went back to my desktop to open BD again and it worked fine. Upon opening I saw that there is a new Build 7 so I elected to install that before I did anything else. I got it installed and then went to my desktop to open it and was met with this error -

1140

My husband suggested try opening with "Run as Administrator". I did and it opened up and seemed to be working. I continued to make some edits on my reports. I then wanted to check on some of my sightings with the "View/Edit Sightings" tab. I chose the particular species i wanted to view and up came all the sightings at various locations over the years. Then i noticed that every sighting regardless of location had the same date! I checked a few other species and each was the same - whatever date was entered for the first sighting was shown on every sighting. Thinking that this was possibly due to having been opened with Run as Admin, I closed BD and tried opening it again.

Now it will open using the desktop shortcut (not using "Run as Admin") and I click OK on the "Error with License Control" message, but if I test the View/Edit sightings again, all the dates for each entry are the same - so something is wrong!

What should I do?

Thank you,

Peggy
