Hi - When I'm inputting my sightings from field notes (collected old school, i.e. pen & paper), I'd like to be alerted when I'm about to add a species which I've already included in a trip. Because my trips often cover a few days, I sometimes write the same species down more than once (while in the field), and don't notice this until after I've inputted the sightings into BD. Is there a setting I can use to alert me to my error?
I've had a look through the help topics, and this forum, and can't find the answer (but apologies if this has been asked before).
Hi Jen,
Thanks for posting.
There is no feature for that. However, whether using Keyboard or Checklist Entry methods, I recommend that after entering your sightings, quickly call them up using View Sightings Setup (F3).
Click on the Clear Data Filter button first to remove any older settings. Then enter the filters (start/end dates; observer, location, etc.) to specify the sightings you just entered. And now set the SORT options as shown below.
This will cause all of your sightings to be sorted by species, in date/time ascending order. You can quickly see duplicates and delete the duplicates by selecting that row and clicking on the Delete button in this window's toolbar.
I think that is how I would deal with this problem.
Let me know if this works for you or if you find a better method.
Thanks 😀 I’ll give this a go.
