[Solved] Birder's Diary goes away without error during Reconcile
On approximately 1 out of every 100 customer computers (Win10 verified, but probably happens on other versions of Windows), during the Reconcile functionality, on the window where you assign older sightings to new Things in the newer taxonomic list, Birder's Diary will close down without any message or error being presented after you click the Assign button.
If you open the Windows Event Viewer (type event viewer into the Windows start/search bar), and open the Windows Logs >> Application section on the left, you should see the error that was recorded by Windows.
In this case, it shows you that the faulting problem is with a Windows System Library named MSVBVM60.dll. This file is generally found in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\, even though the error reports it being in C:\Windows\System32\. The latest version is 126.96.36.199.
Generally this would indicate that the file is corrupt. In which case you can run the Windows Command window in administrator mode...
And then execute the command "sfc /scannow". This is usually a good idea anyway. It will look for outdated or corrupt system libraries and fix them. But in this case it generally does not fix the issue.
The only solution I have is to uncheck the two checkboxes on the Reconcile window causing the problem. Leave them unchecked, they are just convenience options, and the Reconcile will not proceed without issue.
Update: Was on a customer system today running the Reconcile from Clements 2021 to 2022. And his system failed only when the first of the two checkboxes shown above was checked; Auto Return When Complete.
I am no closer to figuring out why it does this, but at least now we know it is NOT tied to the Disable Confirmation button.
