Microsoft forced new Edge on me and deleted my BD5.1.  When I try to download, the Demo prompt appears and says I've expired.  I've deleted all known versions of BD and tried again, but no go.  I did not think I needed to reactivate with codes, but tried to do so, but was rejected.  I do not have Norton, but use Avast.

Hi Patrick,

Thanks for posting.

I don't believe that getting a new Edge browser can possibly delete Birder's Diary from your computer. If it was deleted, then something else is at work here.

And, I am showing that you do not have a license for version 5.1, only 5.0. So that explains the Demo message.

Hmmm. Do you have a backup/copy of your database? That will be important if you deleted everything.

I did not think I needed to reactivate with codes, but tried to do so, but was rejected.

You shouldn't have to if you were installing v5.0 before removing all other versions. But the removal process may have removed your license info also. Nonetheless, your v5.0 license is still good and you can use that to activate your v5.0 program.

Not having Norton is good. However, Avast has been known to be equally intolerant and misbehaving. It is possible that Avast disabled BD v5.0.

So, let's start here, and let me know how I can help.

I was able to download 5.0, but no data.  I looked to see if my external backup had it, but could see no BD files.  I have never had to use the backup to restore, so was awkwardly trying to see what files it had.  I thought a deleted data file would be in "Recycle Bin", but no.  I'm at a loss.  Any other places to look?

Thanks.

Hi Pat,

I am still trying to figure out how you got into this situation.

Did you do backups? Perhaps I should get onto your computer and have a look for you and see what I can do.

Please send email to support@BirdersDiary.com to arrange a time. I am available today or any day this coming week.

Update Patrick.

Today, I was able to get onto a customer system and configure Norton to successfully exclude C:\Birder's Diary\... from processing.

Also, upon each attempt to download installers from this site, I had to let Norton know to TRUST the file.

This seems to have worked on this one customer system. Time will tell.
