I tried to download a checklist from the cloud. I got an error, which has now gone away. I believe the credentials mobile vs. desktop were correct. Yet, it did not work.

I assumed it was because my "everything" license was no longer valid. So, I activated under the a la carte license. But now, when I open BD, the cloud dialog does not appear. And I don't know where to find it in the menu system. Import/Export does not seem to have been updated for this. The new F1 feature finds where to maintain the credentials, but it does not say how to pull up the cloud download dialog.

Oh. It's under Sightings. OK. But it says no sightings to download. I tried to send it again, and Mobile said it was sent. Then on desktop the error popped up again spontaneously.

I will send the screenshot by email.

Interesting David. Thanks for sending the screenshot to me. I include here, but with access info grayed out.

This indicates that the drive and/or directory that has been used in the past to download no longer exists

  1. Run the Registry Editor
    1. Press WinKey+R to bring up the Run window
    2. Enter regedit and press OK.
  2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Birders Diary\Settings on the left.
  3. Take a look at the value for BDMOBILEImportDir on the right. What is it?
  4. Assuming it is some value that is not a valid path, go ahead and change it to "C:\Birder's Diary\"

Now, since the Web API marked your uploaded Outing as retrieved (because it was successfully retrieved by BD on your Desktop, just not saved there) you can no longer retrieve that record. So, simply save it again to the Cloud from your phone.

On BD on your PC, pres Ctrl+I to check for new downloads. It should work now.

Glad to hear you tried the new F1 Find Any Feature function. Here is what I typed:

This will be a work in progress as we find what users are searching for and what keywords they use. Do you remember what word you searched on?

Let me know.

I have "C:\Birder's Diary\.

I searched for "Cloud" in F1.

Having a hot key is great, but I gather there is no actual menu item for cloud downloading. I think there should be.

I uploaded the checklist again. Hit Ctl-I in BD. I got No New Import Files. I also got the error msg again, but now when I do it, I do not get the error msg, I just get no new import files.

I uploaded still a different checklist. In BD I got the error msg again. And no new import files.

Hmmm. Are you running Build 7? We have 24 users using this since last week and no one else has reported this. I wonder what this could be.

Can I get onto your computer again? Available for the next 30 minutes or after 2 hours from now.

OK. I now see the menu item. I will have to download Build 7 later. I'm not sure when "2 hours from now" is, taking in to account time zones.

Ok - that explains the continued error.

If you click on your name "magmatic" on any of your posts, it will take you to your profile where you can set your Time Zone. Then you can see when my post took place, and so on. Just an FYI. I should have specified a time and provided the time zone.

And you can setup a cool image to be displayed here from that page also.

I am available now, if you want to connect from Help | Internet: Invite support onto your computer.

I still want to see why "C:\Birder's Diary" is not valid.

Note: Build 8 is available and is the one you want. Build 7 had a typo in it.

I have build 8 now. I have tried to send and download existing checklists, still to no avail. And have gotten that error msg again.

But. then I created a new checklist as a test and uploaded that with Send and Close. This is a checklist that I have never used Close Only on. Desktop said there was nothing to download, just as always. And the error msg appeared. But when I clicked OK, the Import dialog appeared and there was the checklist! So, I could download that. And I deleted the import files.

Then I tried it again. This time, I HAD previously tapped Close Only it. The same thing happened. BD said there was nothing. I got the error. And the import dialog appeared with the second instance of the file.

For some reason, it will not upload or download the "for real" checklists that I actually want.

This really has me puzzled. With 26 users now using this successfully.

Can we schedule some time for me to get onto your computer tomorrow? How about 10:00 a.m. Central Time?
