I would like to be able to create a lifelist showing all the species for which I have attachments, which in my case is photographs. I can do this with sightings, but this give a huge long list of all sightings, while I just want a lifelist that shows all those for which I have photos, and those for which I do not have photos. Can you give me ideas on how I can create such checklist?
Thanks
Hi Paul,
Thanks for posting.
I want to make sure I understand exactly what you are looking for.

How do you do this with Sightings report? I don't remember any way to specify this in the Sightings report. You can specify to only list things without attachments in the Checklist report; but not Sightings, unless I am missing something.

Ok - so you would like to generate a Life List Report shows the first sighting for a species for which you have an attachment. Is that correct? So, just like a Life List report (e.g. first sighting of a species, optionally at a given location and within a date range), but additionally only if it has an attachment? Is that correct?
Also, to produce a checklist of Species for which you do not have an attachment, you would use the Checklist report where you specify a location and observer. That already exists in v5.2.
Let's start here. Let me know please. Take care.
Thanks Paul.
I want to produce a life list report of all species observed, with a checkbox for all species for which I have a photograph.
Ok, so you can already produce a Life List report with a count of attachments for that lifer sighting.
This produces the following sample Life List report.
Is this what you are after?
I think so. But I am not sure.
So when I produce a list list, and ask for attachments, I think I get a check mark for photos when the attachment occurs at the first time of a sighting. But I am unsure of this. I would like to have a life list, which includes the first time of sighting, but then also a listing of all species for which I have an attachment at any time of a sighting, even if it is not the first.
Also, I am keeping track of all the birds and plants in a local conservation area. I want to send the managers a listing of all the birds and plants found in the conservation area, as well as a photo of any of the found species for which there is a photo. I do not know how to do this. Any format would be good, but an RTF file means I can edit the report in Microsoft Word.
Thanks for helping.

Hi Paul,

It actually shows the count (not a check mark) of any documents associated with that Lifer Sighting if any exist.
also a listing of all species for which I have an attachment at any time of a sighting, even if it is not the first.
You can get a list of all sightings with attachments via View Sightings Setup... see screenshot below. The important part is the checkbox (#3) at the lower-center of the setup window.
Also, I am keeping track of all the birds and plants in a local conservation area. Again, use the View Sightings Setup to capture the set of Sightings you are interested in by location, taxonomy, with attachments, etc.
Select the sightings you want to use in the report and click on the HTML Report button as shown in the screenshot above.
A report with all Sightings and Photos will be generated. The HTML file will be uploaded to this website, if you choose, and you can give the conservation mgrs the link to view the report. Alternatively, you can email the HTML file to the conservation mgrs. It is found in C:\Birder's Diary\BDSightingsReport.html.
This produces a very nice report. See example here.
You can install extensions to most browsers that will allow you to save to DOC format. That is left up to the customer. But BD does not produce an RTF/Word document currently that contains photos.
Let me know if I can assist further.
