Jeff,

I had four eBird Lists to import. The first two loaded ok. The third and fourth, I initially received an RTE 401 error. I closed the import window and reopened. I was then able to load the third. The fourth errored with same. I closed BD and reopened. The fourth list was then imported.

Sorry for the delay in a response.

I am using 6.0.33 and was using eBird import files.

I will upgrade to the latest version and try another list.

I upgraded to 6.0.35 and uploaded a few lists. Previous error was not reproduced.

I did get a new error when backing up. Runtime error 3420. See attached.

backup error

@memmons Yikes and GACK!

Mike - can you try to reproduce that by running another backup and let me know.

If you can reproduce that, please send both BD6035.log and BD6035_worker.log to me at support@birdersdiary.com.

Thanks.

Jeff, I had another error while doing back up. Same error code as above. Attaching requested logs. Had to zip as I was getting an upload error. (Antivirius??)

Hi Mike,

Thanks much for the log files. The backup completed successfully with no issues.

[5/3/2023 17:31:13.39] Backup to 'C:\Birder's Diary\newstandard.mdb'. Backup Attachments: Yes
[5/3/2023 17:31:15.18] Overwriting existing backup file of same name.
[5/3/2023 17:31:15.41] Made copy of database before Compress/Repair operation. 'C:\Birder's Diary\data\database.mdb_bck_copy'
[5/3/2023 17:31:25.11] Compact and Repair of current database completed to 'C:\Birder's Diary\newstandard.mdb'
[5/3/2023 17:31:26.06] Replaced current DB with Backup Copy.
[5/3/2023 17:31:26.11] Spawned subprocess to copy new and changed Attachment files to 'C:\Birder's Diary\Attached-Sighting-Documents\'
[5/3/2023 17:31:26.11] See log file for details: 'C:\Birder's Diary\Backup_Attachments.log'
[5/3/2023 17:31:28.11] Backup Completed!

So, not sure what this is complaining about.

Are you starting the backup manually by selecting File | Backup/Restore from the menu, or are you starting it after attempting to exit and being prompted to run a backup?

If you try a backup again, does it happen again?

Let's start here.

@jeff

I am manually selecting File | Backup/Restore.

This morning, I opened Birders Diary, then immediately ran a backup. No Error.

I then entered two sightings and ran backup. Error was thrown. Attached are logs after both.

Hi Mike,

Hmmm. Very interesting.

Can we schedule some time for me to get onto your computer to have a look at this? Please send email to support@BirdersDiary.com to let me know when you are available. I will be able to figure this out, just need to get on and see this for myself.

Thanks.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for posting; and as always, thanks for the screenshot.

A couple questions:

  1. What version of BD are you running?
  2. Were you using the File | Import/Export window or the "eBird Import File(s) Found" window; shown below.

Let's start here. We've had some similar issues with this in the past that I thought were fixed in the current release (v6.0 Build 34).

Let me know.

Update: Got onto Mike's computer and he had already figured out the unique situation that causes this. And we were able to reproduce it on his computer.

  1. Add a sighting or two and close the sightings window; this causes an update to the lifer bars, among other things.
  2. While that update is happening and before it completes, he does a backup, that actually completes before the lifer bar updates complete.
  3. This causes the RTE 3420, object invalid or no longer set.

Working on reproducing it on my dev machine and getting a fix for this.

stand by.

All righty. Fixed in Build 37.

In 28 years this one has never happened. 😉

Good find Mike!
