Hi. I'm trying to import ebird files and have them be associated with trips - either created when I import them or associating them with BD trips that I have created. How to?

Hi John,

Thanks for posting.

So, you've got your eBird sightings imported to BD. Now you want to assign those sightings to a Trip you have created in BD. Here you go.

  1. Define your Trip first using the Trip Maintenance window (F6).
  2. Bring up the set of sightings you want to assign to a to the Trip using View Sightings Setup (F3). Select by date, location, observer; whatever filters you need to zero in on the sightings you want. Click Continue.
  3. Now you have the View & Edit Sightings window.
    1. If you want to assign all of the sightings in the table to your Trip, click on the Select All Sightings button in this window's toolbar.

Else you can use a combination of Click, Ctrl+Click and Shift+Click to select the set of sightings you want to assign.

    2. Now click on the Edit Pencil button in the toolbar.

    3. Now you are in the Edit Sightings window
      1. Check the Checkbox to the left of the Trip dropdown
      2. Now select a Trip from the Trip dropdown (Tip: this is a SmartSearch field so typing in parts of the trip name is faster)

      3. Click the Update button

That is it. You have assigned all selected sightings to the specified Trip.

Let me know if I can assist further.

Jeff

@jeff - though after I associate them to the trip I have been unable to use the new (specific) location to find the sightings again...

Hi John,

Not sure what you mean by this. We were talking about Trips.

Please give me more details, with specific example of what you are specifying on the Sightings Setup window and I am sure I can help.

Thanks.

Jeff
