To be clear, you should have it in the \SysWOW64\ directory.
Here is what mine looks like:
It appears to be the same file. So it may either be corrupt, or need to be re-registered. Please try re-registering first.
Then, you may need to get a new copy, download, and register as per instructions further above.
Ok?
Hmmm, I'm going to have to pick up on this again tomorrow when I'm fresher.
I did try unregistering it in the syswow64 directory, and received a different error -- like I was trying to unregister a 64-bit dll using a 32-bit command (or vice-versa). Very strange. I will do some back-ups and restores around that dll, although it appears to have the same size and timestamp as the version on my old laptop.
One last question before I start again: is it odd that the original error message refers to the system32 directory when we know the dll doesn't exist there?
thanks for your help,
Paul

I would like to see a screenshot of that error please.

No, that is standard in Windows for these two directories. The explanation is long and involved. But Windows will almost always report /System32 when the file is actually in /SysWOW64.
I should be here most of tomorrow. We will talk then. Sleep well.
Well, please don't shoot me, but I cleaned up all my partially updated directories, booted into safe mode with networking, redownloaded the installer, ran it, and I am in.
So... unfortunately I don't know what's different between the modes that made it work, but it did.
Let me know if you'd like more info, but it seems I'm good at the moment (at least, I will be once I do a restore from my old laptop and re-license my new install).
thanks so much for the prompt responses.
thanks, Paul
Hi Paul,
This is great. You sound as if you have some PC tech experience. This problem is mentioned a lot on various sites on the internet involving many different products. And I did see where at least one recommended doing what you did.
I also wondered, how could this solve the problem. And it did for you, but I still don't know what in Win11 would allow it to work in Safe Mode but not in normal mode.
My hat is off to you for finding the solution! Congrats!
Please keep me updated with any strange happenings as far as BD and this new computer go.
Take care.
"Tech experience" -- Ha! Just enough to get me into trouble, and to be the informal helpdesk for all my friends and family 🙂
My next challenge? A birder friend of mine is finally exiting from Avisys -- he's had it for years but it isn't working properly anymore -- and he's going to become a BD user. Helping him through that the next couple of weeks.
ciao, Paul

In case you didn't know, BD has a built-in AviSys-to-BD tool.
On that window there is a Help button that contains all the details.
Let me know if I can assist with anything.
