Not sure if you have this feature already so...

Could you add a feature in the Reports section, to list birds by family and within a region?

Selfish reason for this of course is that I am creating an Anki deck of likely birds to see in Belize next Feb and I want to add a tag to each Anki note to identify the family to which the bird belongs. However, the source that I am using is a bit old. So I know that it has some birds in the wrong family and the only way to cross check currently is to go to each bird in eBird to find the family.

@aitona

Thanks for posting. I moved this from Wishlist into the Support forum as I believe we already have what you are asking for.

I had to look up Anki deck! New term for me. Looks fascinating. I can imagine all sorts of application for this.

You are going to Belize, so are you creating a Checklist Report (checklist tab in the report designer window) of the birds of Belize, and you want the report to be grouped by Family, and perhaps even show the SciName so that you can match with your older bird list? Is this what you are after?

First, you really should watch the Report Designer How-To video that gives you all the basics to working with the report designer. It will make working with the report designer much easier.

With that said, I will show you how to generate a Checklist report, in taxonomic order, Grouped By Family, showing common name and SciName. Here we go.

Now select your report columns by clicking on #5 above.

From #7 above...

Now, this will produce a report as such...

There. Let me know if this is not what you are looking for and/or if you need help in tweaking it to get exactly what you want. Be sure to watch the Video Tutorial.

You're the best, Jeff!

I was trying to figure out how to do this for just 1 family at a time but your guidance gives me a much better output.

Plus who would have thought that actually watching/reading the instructions would be better than just banging away at a preceived problem. Thanks to your video I was able to tweak the report output nicely and I can continue to create accurate notes for my Belize Birds Anki Deck.

Speaking of Anki, yes it is a great resource. For this deck I am creating notes/cards that have a photo, sometimes with an arrow to highlight a salient feature and perhaps a sound recording on 1 side; and then the common and scientific name on the reverse. I have attached a photo of an image of one note.
