when i am on an outing and put my galaxy smart phone in my pocket, it stops and does not record my route or time. Plus i must restart the app and that whole part of my outiing is not recorded.

Is ther a way to keep it running.

Is this a power saving shut down by my galaxy smart phone?

Hi Dave,

It seems as though we had trouble with your phone in the recent path using this app. It required you to do some sort of reset; I can't remember the exact problem; but then it started working correctly. And I remember this used to work for you.

Now, when you say it stops and does not record your route or time, that is not what should be happening. For example, when I put my Galaxy S9+ into my pocket, first I lock it, then I put it into my pocket. Then when I pull it out to record a sighting, I must first unlock it, and there is the app, still running, still recording time, etc. What do you see and do exactly? Do you lock your phone before putting in your pocket? Was the BD app still on the screen before you lock your phone? Is it the first thing you see when you unlock/open your phone?

This is not how it is supposed to be working, so please answer the questions above and give me as much detail as possible and we will get to the bottom of this.

Let's start here,

Jeff

Dave,

Now I remember your prior issue. Somehow your database got out of sync and a app uninstall followed by a fresh app install solved your problem. So, perhaps this will help again in your situation.

In addition, I don't see any crashes or unresponsive application issues reported to Android Central by this App, and it would be there if the BD app were crashing on your phone. Doesn't mean it isn't, but if it was, I should be seeing something.

Does this happen every time? Can you do a simple test of what you are doing when you see this problem?

Let me know the details please.

Thanks,

Jeff

ok, so i take it out of my pocket, I see the lock screen.

i unlock the Phone, BD says "resume outing", so I click on that, no time has passed and no distance was added, same species present.

maybe this is the way it is supposed to work. I was expecting it to be like ebird and record my track, so maybe there is not a problem

Thanks Dave. You originally stated that you had to "restart" the App. That threw me. Yes, if you close the app, then when you open it again, it always starts on the home screen; so choose resume, to resume your checklist all data saved and present, or choose another option if you like. This only happens if you close the app or change active apps before locking your screen. If the checklist is the last window displaying before locking your phone, then it will be the first window to display when you unlock and there is no need to Resume.

The time and distance will increment once you phone has a chance to get a GPS lock and update your location. This can take from 1s to many seconds depending on your conditions. That explains what you are seeing.

In the current version, BD does not keep the GPS unit active when the app is not the active, and in use, app. So each time you change apps or lock the phone, the GPS is turned off to save battery life. This will be an option in a future release, where as the GPS unit will stay on if you choose and continue to maintain a valid and most-accurate signal whether phone is locked, in use or not.

Let me know if you have any more questions,

Jeff
