Hi Rita,

I am going to start over on this. I haven't heard from you since you first posted 2 days ago. But now, I have another customer getting:

Error Uploading Outing 400 – javax.net.ssl.SSL
Handshake.exception chain validation failed

This will only happen when you try to use the Cloud API method for uploading your Sightings. Not via email.

Upload via Email

First, let's deal with the email method and get your Sightings imported into BD Desktop.

Set your BD Mobile up for eMail in the home page settings window (Wrench button on home page). Submit Method=eMail and make sure your email address is correct.

Back to the home page and click on Completed Outings. Select the Outing in question from the list and touch the blue "eye" button to open the outing. Click on the ":" menu button in the upper right and choose "Finish Outing". On the Finish Outing... window, click on the "Send and Close" button.

Assuming email is setup on your phone, your default email app will open and allow you to send the email. Once it opens, you must actually send the email.

Now go to your desktop computer and check your email. You should find it in your Inbox. If not, check spam/junk folders. Let me know.

Upload via Cloud API

As for the "400" error. I am working on that one right now. It appears to be a problem with my host provider certification chain.

Let me know on all of this please.

Update: I have tried the "Upload to Cloud API" several times (I am connected to reliable WiFi), and it works every time.

So this 400 error using the Cloud API seems to be location and/or internet dependent. It may indicate a problem connecting to www.birdersdiary.com.

In that case, please use your phone, open a browser app on your phone (e.g. Chrome) and attempt to navigate to www.birdersdiary.com. Let me know the results please.

Thanks.

Update:

Spent the last hour with my host provider Technical Support.

This should be an intermittent issue if and when it ever occurs. We did a diagnostic to see if any problems with certificates currently exist and none were found.

If you get this error in the future from BD using the Cloud API, click on the link below on your phone and your connectivity to our host will be checked. And any issues will be reported and identified and hopefully let you know why you are getting this.

I will go ahead and close this for now since I haven't heard from you in a couple days. But please do update me with where you are and how things are working when you get back online.

Thanks.

Update: the other user experiencing Error 400 just now tested and all is working as expected.

So, as expected this is an intermittent issue somewhere in the internet along the path from you to birdersdiary.com; and they should usually clear up quickly.

Please update me with your current situation when you have time. Thanks!
