Hello Jeff,

I updated a sighting today, Mar 6, and when I went to view the change in the Sightings Report, the order of family descriptions changed and in some cases the family description repeated as if all the sightings of a specie were not sorted together.

I went to the sightings report editor and checked the taxonomy order box and got the taxonomy order corrected but the format all changed.

I'm using my Alaska sightings report for simplicity but identifies the problem.

What's going on?

Attachment 1 is my report as printed in 2020. All is good.

Attachment 2 is my output today (note: Taxonomy order

not checked) and order is incorrect.

Attachment 3 is my output if Taxonomy order is checked (note: format has totally changed)

2 362024 without taxonomy order checked

3 362024 with taxonomy order checked

Hi Al,

Responding on the road to this one. So, I haven't checked out your examples in detail yet, but I think I know what is going on.

In a recent update to v6.1, I took away the forced auto-sort on a Group By field.

Some users didn't want that. However, if you had a report wherein you Grouped By a column but did not specify the Sort dropdown, in the past, it would have sorted by that column anyway. Not any more. Go back and explicitly specify the Sort you want for any Group By column.

Let me know please.

It was in Build 25 of v6.1.

Jeff,

I tried different Sort by and Group by checkmarks. Plus, if I change the font or font color of an item in the report column the entire report changes to those settings. It doesn't discriminate. It just makes it worse.

Hi Al,

Back to my computer now. Thanks for the screenshots, etc.

I can see now that selecting Taxonomic Sort order did fix the report to have the same format as before, minus the bolding/color of the Family Description. Your 2nd screen shot above.

So, no need to change your Sort By and Group By checkmarks in this particular case; because choosing the Taxonomic Sort is the correct move.

Now, all you need to do is to set the font/color/bold of the Family Description column.

This probably indicates that you used the wrong buttons to change the font on just one column (the Group By column).

To correct this:

  1. Set the default report font using the bottom Change button. Set it to a standard no-bolded, black font.
  2. Click the Set Report button. This changes all the columns in the current report to use that font.
  3. Now change the Group By column by clicking on the Font button for that column as shown above. Set font, color, bolding.

Now you are back in business.

Let me know.

Hello Jeff,

I followed your instructions and got my report back to my previous format.

Two points to remember.

1. After making changes, one has to click "Done" and "Save As" or it will revert back to the previous incorrect format.

2 Once one report is corrected, on any other reports one only has to click the "Use Taxonomy Order" box , click "Done" and do a "Save As". No further need to deal with the report fonts or colors.

Hello Jeff,

When I revised my report with the Taxonomy Order box checked, I think I also clicked on "Set Report" which changed the fonts and colors. Had I not done so, only the taxonomy order would have been corrected and fonts and colors would have stayed as I had originally set them many years ago.

So, for my existing reports, all I have to do is click the "Use Taxonomy Order" box, click "Done" and do a "Save As". That is all that is required.

Sorry for the contusion, Al

Thanks for the update Al. That is what I thought was going on.

Sorry that this change caused the confusion. I did not foresee that.
