[Solved] Run-time Error 70, Permission Denied
I am attempting to get Birder's Diary running on my new laptop. I have managed to get it to install after uninstalling Norton so that it would not block at every step!
When I attempt to run BD it crashes with 'Run-time Error 70 - permission Denied'.
I've seen some suggestions to get around this on the web but not sure if they are applicable in this case.
I checked the database as suggested (this was the database downloaded from the BD website with the trial version). The read only flag was not checked. I also tried replacing the database with my database from my old computer (read-only not checked). In both cases the program came up immediately with run-time error 70.
Apologies for the delayed response.
The error comes up almost immediately, before the splash screen so no other message.
I have tried reinstalling - Windows defender wanted to stop the download but I was able to step around that and it installed but did not install a new database.
Installed to c:\Birder's Diary (Accepted the defaults from the installer)
I've left Norton uninstalled for now.
The database security settings on the old computer where BD works are the same on the General Properties Screen (Read-only not checked) but on the security properties have the following categories:
Authenticated Users Modify, Read & Execute, Read, Write
System Full Control, Modify, Read & Execute, Read, Write
Administrators Full Control, Modify, Read & Execute, Read, Write
Users Read & Execute, Read
Authenticated Users not present on the new computer.

I will be back from travelling on Tuesday. Let's setup some time where I can get onto your computer then.
What time zone are you in? I am in Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney. UTC +10.
I am UTC -5. You are 15 hours ahead of me. Please send email to me at email@example.com when you get to your computer this coming Thu morning (for you). It will be Wed afternoon for me. And I will send instructions to let me onto your computer.
Update: Euan let me onto his computer today.
His permission and security is messed up on his computer. He re-formatted his disk and had Windows reinstalled. Something is amiss.
We did not have permission to create a file anywhere on his C drive. Including inside C:\Birder's Diary\.
Running BD in Admin mode (right-click on desktop icon and choose run as admin) allows him to use BD for now.
But I suggested he contact a local PC support person to correct the security/permission settings on his C drive.
