Jeff,
I just got back from a trip and started importing my eBird checklists. All entries have the time set to 00:00 instead of the Checklist start time in the When Seen column.
I'm on 7.0 build 10. The same import works correctly on 6.3. FYI, my mammal import from the BD app displays the recorded times.
Judy
Hi Judy,
Thanks for posting. That was a bug introduced around Build 6 or 7. It is fixed now. Please upgrade to the latest build (10) and the problem is fixed.
Sorry about that.
Hi Judy,
Thanks for clarifying. I misunderstood earlier. This was so similar to another problem that I skipped right over it being tied to an eBird import. This is unrelated to the timestamp bug I mentioned previously.
Please send me:
-
A copy of the original eBird CSV file that you imported. You can attach it to your reply here or send it via email to support@BirdersDiary.com.
-
A screenshot of your import settings under File | Import/Export..., on the Sightings tab.
Once I have those, I can determine why the imported times were set to 00:00.
Thanks and sorry for misidentifying your issue.
Hi Judy,
Just a quick update while I am waiting on your file/screenshot.
I tested an eBird import file (exported from eBird and imported into BD) and it has its Start Time field set to "1:00 PM".
It imported with the correct date/time; using Build 10.
Looking at the eBird CSV file might tell me what is going on, if its Start Time is "0:00". If not, then we might need to look at your date/time settings in Windows.
Please send me a screenshot of your Windows regional date and time format settings:
-
Press WinKey+R.
-
Type intl.cpl and press Enter.
-
The Region window will open on the Formats tab.
-
Please take a screenshot showing the entire window, including:
-
Format
-
Short date
-
Long date
-
Short time
-
Long time
-
Please do not change anything yet. I only need to see the current settings.
Thanks. We will get to the bottom of this.
Hi Judy,
Your CSV file tells the story. This was a change in eBird CSV format a few months ago, that we fixed back then.
From the v6.3 Release Notes on 3-Jun
Now, I have to figure out if your file fails on my computer and then why it is failing on yours still.
Stay tuned...
Hi Judy,
I imported your CSV file on my development machine, and it imported without any problem.
I also know that this fixed the problem back in June 3rd for the customers that reported it, and no one else has reported it since.
So, I am starting to wonder what is different about your computer.
Tell me a bit about your computer: Windows Version, Regional settings (US English) etc. please.
I found the problem Judy!
My fix from 3-Jun did not catch all situations.
If you had checked Create Trip on eBird Import, then the time would be set correctly for all sightings. You shouldn't have to do that if you don't want to - that was my fault.
Build 11 will fix this and you will be good to go. I should have that out shortly.
Build 11 is now ready Judy.
You can edit those sightings manually and reset the time on them, or remove them and reimport the CSV files.
Let me know if anything else comes up.
Thanks, Jeff. The time came in correctly with Build 11. I appreciate your quick response.
BTW, I'm still working on reconciling mammals to MDD. There were a lot of splits in primates and squirrels, that I needed to confirm or modify. ChatGPT was/is a big help. In taxonomy order, I've worked my way to Bats. My sightings go back to 1993.
Judy
Great, Judy. Glad to hear Build 11 fixed the problem.
That sounds like quite a mammal reconciliation project. Working through records back to 1993—especially primates, squirrels, and now bats—is no small task. Good to hear ChatGPT is helping.
Thanks again for reporting the import problem.
