For example, if I try to open "Contents" in the Help dropdown menu, I receive the message "Error Opening File!  Error opening c:\birder's Diary https://birdersdiry.com/users-guide ."

Also, when I add sightings to a Trip, I receive the error message "UnCharted Territory!  Error with Chart '2' Remove and rebuild this chart."

Hi David,

Thanks for posting.

That is odd. It works correctly for me. I can't imagine why it would be doing that. It should be taking you to https://birdersdiary.com/users-guide. What happens if you click on this link? Did you get the users guide web page?

This also makes no sense at all.

Can I get onto your computer again to have a look at this?

Send me email at jeff@birdersdiary.com to schedule a time. I am available today.

Thanks

Update: Got onto David's computer just now.

The error with accessing any URL/web-address that BD tries to open is due to a company computer and its security settings. It will not allow any program to open a URL, and/or the security is not configured properly. I referred David to his admin for this.

The other error has to do with anytime you add/edit data/sightings/trips in BD, it will update the counts at the bottom, the two grids and left and right and the charts at the bottom (if they are visible at the time). In this case, David still had the default Charts I ship BD with and they no longer access valid taxonomic lists in his database, and therefore throw an error, correctly, and request that he edit/update or remove the offending chart. I will attempt to make this clearer in future releases. In this case, we simply removed the default Charts that BD ships with.

All is good now on David's computer.

In Build 25 and later of v5.3, the user will get a friendlier error message correctly identifying the chart that needs rebuilding and/or removing.

The previous error message only have the chart index; an internal number that wouldn't mean anything to the user.
