[Solved] Uninstaller for BD version 5.2?
I updated my Windows 10 computer from BD v5.1 to v5.2 a few months ago.
After the update I found that there is no entry for BD version 5.2 showing in either Control Panel > Programs and Features, or Settings > Aps > Aps & features.
Only version 5.1 is showing there:
After previous program updates I always had entries for BOTH the older version and the updated version showing, in both locations.
(There is an old thread about this on the Forum, where I figured out how to remove the entry for the older version by editing the registry.)
Also, I remember warnings about trying to use the Windows uninstaller to uninstall the older version of the program after an update, because you would end up uninstalling the program completely.
If you look at my registry entries in Regedit since updating to v5.2, you can see that the registry entry for v5.1 includes an uninstall string, while the entry for v5.2 does not:
I'm concerned that If I follow my usual procedure, and edit the registry to remove the obsolete v5.1 entry from Programs and Features, I will have no easy way to uninstall the Program (not that I'm planning to...).
Is this intentional?
I then removed the old version by deleting the old program EXE file (and associated icons) from the program folder.
This is correct.
When I updated from version v5.1 to v5.2 a few months ago, however, the installation did NOT create an uninstall entry in either Programs and Features OR Apps & features. The entry for v5.1 is there, but no icon for v 5.2.
Ok - my bad. I think I removed that feature from v5.2. I can't check right now as my development system is performing a long update and backup. But pretty sure I did that. So that would explain what you are seeing. The reason I did this is to prevent users from accidentally Uninstalling older versions and removing their database.
The proper way to uninstall BD is to simply remove the entire installation directory; by default C:\Birder's Diary\...
This is not a preferred way for me to solve this. However, the installation software I use does not have a feature that allows me to configure it to avoid the situation above. So, this was the best option I could find.
Let me know what questions/concerns this might create.
Thanks and sorry for the confusion,
